C.S. Lewis said 'A children's story that can only be enjoyed by children is not a good children's story in the slightest.' I agree with him on the premise that I didn't fully understand my favorites until I was an adult! Also we are adults for a lot longer time. I think it's safe to say that everyone has a favorite childhoood story. Which you choose says a great deal about you. My favorite was, and still is, 'Dick Whittington and his Cat'. In my young, forming mind, I understood that my intuition was a power stronger then dispair. That even a victim didn't have to stay that way. That no matter how bleak things appear, when you give it all you have, your faith will bring you rewards you never knew existed. That friends are people you trust and they look out for you. I got all this at five. My mother read it to me. I find it even more magical that it was not until I was an adult that I learned 'Dick Whittington' was based on true story! In my 'Owly Series' I've made a life committment to write stories that usher in the newer approaching paradigm. It is where we understand that real love of self is the place we begin to find joy, peace and wisdom and then share from there. "Owly & Langus' is complete and now in the illustration phase. I promise to keep you posted! Kathryn Vaughn [email protected]
